VALUES AND LIVING CONDITIONS

We want to compare the living conditions and values in India, Canada and Norway by using their scores on the following areas of society: fertility rate, child mortality rate, GDP (gross domestic product) and gender equality, (where 0 is total equality between genders, and 1 is no equality at all).

We see from the table that India differs quite dramatically from Canada and Norway on these important areas of society. This is not unexpected as Canada and Norway are highly developed economies while India is still a developing country. GDP per capita in Norway is eleven times higher than in India (eight times higher in Canada). We also see that India has a much higher child mortality rate compered to the two other countries. Child mortality rate is a good indication of poverty.

When it comes to values we have decided to focus on gender equality. From the table we clearly see that the inequality in India is much larger than in both Canada and Norway. But we can also read from the table that Norway scores much better in this area compared to Canada. In other words women and men in Norway are more equal than in Canada, which again has much more gender equality than India. All these three countries value their culture. Culture and religion is a big part of peoples daily life i these three countries.
